The description
This is one of Mister Donut's seasonal sakura donuts -- there are four in total, covering the life cycle of a cherry blossom! This is the first one in the life cycle, meant to depict pre-blooming sakura.
The good
If you like your donuts to be more Japanese-inspired when it comes to taste, this is a great option for you to try. The donut itself has a slight sakura flavor and is coated in a sakura glaze, but it's then dipped in kinako (roasted soybean powder) to give it an earthy appearance -- and an earthy taste! I have really grown to love kinako over the years, so this was enjoyable for me. The price was right around where I expected it to be at 151 yen including tax. I thought it represented decent value for money.
The not so good
Although I love kinako, I know that there are plenty of people out there who aren't huge fans of it. If you prefer more western tastes when it comes to your sweet treat of choice, I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this donut to you. This sakura life cycle donut range is only around for a limited time, so that's a bit of a downside too if you find an item in the range that you really enjoy. Other than those couple of points, I liked this donut a lot and just thought the sakura life cycle concept was a clever one for a seasonal donut range. Hope you enjoy it if you try it!
