The description

This product is the Matcha Anko Butter Chocolate Scone Sandwich, and it's a limited time offering available at Starbucks. It's priced at 420 yen including tax.

The good

If you like Japanese + Western fusion desserts, then this new Matcha Anko Butter Chocolate Scone Sandwich from Starbucks is a really nice option to try. The name basically gives you a good rundown of what the product contains -- you've got a chocolate scone outer, which is filled with butter and smooth matcha bean paste. I personally really liked the combination of flavors, with the chocolate adding a nice sweetness, the butter adding a nice saltiness, and the matcha bean paste adding an element of earthiness. Price-wise I don't feel it's too bad -- it's a pretty generous portion as far as scones go, and if you compare it to a slice of cake or similar then it's actually cheaper than a lot of those options!

The not so good

As I mentioned above, I personally liked the combination of flavors that came with this scone. However, I can also see the flip side, where someone might find that there's just *too* much going on with it...sweet, salty, earthy...that might feel like too many clashing flavors all at once. If you do find yourself really enjoying this, there's also the (often present!) issue that it's only a limited time thing. It may make a menu comeback at some point in the future, but of course that's never a guarantee. Be sure to head in to your nearest Starbucks store sooner rather than later if it's a must-try item for you. Happy eating! :)
