The description

This product is a matcha flavored dorayaki, which is a collaborative effort between Lawson's Uchi Cafe range and Morihan Kyoto, a matcha purveyor. The product was priced at 203 yen including tax.

The good

I've always enjoyed dorayaki, and this product was no exception to that rule. The pancake portion itself was lovely and chewy, and the filling combines both a matcha flavored cream and a regular whipped cream. I found that it was nice having both types of cream, as the regular whipped cream gave a bit of added sweetness to offset the earthy matcha taste. I thought the price point was quite reasonable, too. A little pricier than your usual dorayaki, but I didn't think it was absurdly expensive, especially for one of these collaboration products.

The not so good

Personally, I thought that the cream fillings weren't as smooth as they could have been – they were a little chunky, or gritty might be a better word. I would have much preferred that they were completely smooth, and it would have meant that I'd have enjoyed the product more – the taste was great, but I just wasn't the biggest fan of the texture. Based on the texture, I'd only give the product three stars. If the cream texture was smoother I would have bumped that up to four. If you're not too fussed about the cream filling being completely smooth and you enjoy matcha sweets, give it a try.
