Japan's Halloween spending rises even as fewer join the fun
Japan's Halloween spending habits are shifting, and this year's numbers tell an interesting story. According to new data from marketing firm Intage, the 2025 Halloween market is worth about 167.3 billion yen, which is around 93 percent of last year's size.
The spookiest thing this Halloween? Disappearing yen thanks to rising prices ;) (Image created via Canva)
Only about a quarter of people surveyed said they had Halloween plans, which is down slightly from 2024. Still, average spending rose to 7,192 yen per person, up about 600 yen from last year, and the biggest reason for the increase was higher prices. Many said inflation pushed their budgets up, while others said it made them cut back. It seems people are divided between wanting to enjoy the season and needing to save money.
If you usually celebrate Halloween, are you finding that you're spending more or cutting back?
