Ryokan stays recognized by Lonely Planet for 2026

Lonely Planet put out their lists of the "best in travel" destinations and experiences for the coming year around this timeframe, and ryokan stays were recognized by them in the experiences category.

I think they're such a great way to connect with Japan's culture, and I've stayed at quite a few over my years here. A standout favorite is still Konansou in Yamanashi, which had the most incredible view of Mount Fuji from the outdoor private bath. The food there was also amazing. Definitely a bit of a splurge but I would recommend it for a special occasion.
