The description
This product is a matcha and koshian (smooth red bean paste) mochi ice cream, and it's a collaboration between Yukimi Daifuku and Kikufuku (a Sendai-based confectionery company). It was priced at 194 yen including tax.
The good
I just loved the taste of this product! The matcha flavor and the koshian red bean paste pair together so well, and I was very pleased that they opted for koshian over tsubuan -- koshian will always, always be my preferred choice! I think these mochi ice creams are good value for money given that you get two in a packet for under 200 yen. I find that I either have one then and there and save the other for later, or I share the pack and my husband and I have one each. If you enjoy traditional Japanese dessert flavors and you like mochi ice cream, I definitely recommend giving this product a try.
The not so good
I think for some expats this product may not be their cup of tea, as it's definitely got some very earthy flavored fillings. In saying that, I don't think anyone would go out of their way to purchase it if they didn't like matcha and red bean paste -- I feel like it's fairly evident from the packaging that it's what the flavors are! I honestly don't have any real negative points for this, I personally loved it and will be repurchasing some more soon and keeping them in the freezer for when the craving strikes. I guess that's one negative -- since it's only a limited-time collaboration they won't be on store shelves forever, so get in while you can!
