St. Marc Cafe is pretty great at offering seasonal varieties of their well-known chococro product, and this new Fragrant Honey Sweet Potato Premium chococro is the latest one on their menu! It packs four different sweet potato elements into the one pastry, with Anno Imo flavored chocolate, Beni Azuma paste, Naruto Kintoki candied sweet potato, and a Kyushu sweet potato topping. I also liked the addition of black sesame and caramel, which gave the pastry a little more depth and kept the sweetness from becoming completely one-note. If you love yakiimo or Japanese sweet potato sweets, this is a tasty and indulgent way to get your fix!

By Japanese standards, this is a very sweet pastry. With sweet potato, chocolate, candied sweet potato, caramel, and a sweet potato filling all competing for attention, it's great if you've got a mega sweet tooth but maybe a bit cloying if not. The different components sound exciting, but they can also make the croissant feel a little overloaded rather than letting the pastry itself shine. Overall though, I'd say if you can't get enough of sweet potato flavored goodies at this time of year then this is one you should try out. Not sure how long it'll be on their menu for, so head in to your nearest St. Marc Cafe store sooner rather than later if you want to give it a go. Happy eating! :)
