The good
This new seasonal dessert from Family Mart is a great option for folks who want that cream puff fix without having to go to a dedicated store like Beard Papa. And don't get me wrong, I love Beard Papa, but there's not one that close to me unless I'm headed into Nagaoka or Niigata City. The outer pastry part of this has a nice crispy crunch to it, and the inner filling consists of a sweet potato custard made with Beni Haruka sweet potatoes and whipped cream. They balance each other nicely for a dessert that is sweet but not cloyingly so.
The not so good
With tax included, this will set you back 254 yen. If you do have a Beard Papa store nearby, then I'd always opt for one of those because to me they taste fresher, and they're really not that much different in price. Overall though, this is a tasty choux cream option if you're looking for an easy and accessible fix, and I also appreciate that they've really leaned into the seasonality side of things.
