The good
When I think of pie offerings from McDonalds, my mind usually goes straight to it being a dessert item. Aside from the standard apple pie, McDonalds stores here have had some fun sweet options throughout the years, but this new Cheese Bacon Potato Pie focuses on all things savory. As the name suggests, the filling consists of potato pieces, bacon bits, and gooey cheese, all in a crunchy pie crust. I think it works well as a savory snack to tide you over between meals, without being exceptionally heavy. It could probably count as a lighter meal, too, if you don't have a huge appetite.
The not so good
In terms of seasonality, I don't know that this feels like the right fit for a summertime option, especially when summer so far has been miserably hot. I feel like this would work so much better as a cold weather pie, especially in a country that really puts a lot of emphasis on seasonality with food. It was still good -- definitely tasty, and the price isn't bad either -- but I do think autumn or winter would make it taste even more delicious. Head in to your nearest McDonalds store sooner rather than later if it sounds like a must try item to you. Happy eating! :)
