The description
This product is a custard apple pie which uses two types of apples from Aomori Prefecture. It's available from Starbucks stores for a limited time and is priced at 600 yen.
The good
Apples and custard are such a fab combo in my opinion, and if you add them as pie fillings that becomes even more true. This custard apple pie from Starbucks is a great option if you also love this mix of flavors, and I was really pleased to see that it uses apples sourced from Aomori Prefecture. Even cooler is the fact that there is not just one, but two types of apples in this pie (Kodama and Fuji apples). Flavor-wise this is great -- I loved the notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice paired with the custard and apples, and the pie crust had a nice flakiness to it. Worth trying at least once if you're an apple + custard fan, I think!
The not so good
Obviously the glaring issue is the price -- at 600 yen it's pretty pricey for a sweet treat (it's the price of a full meal at some places, still!) so even though I really loved this it's a once and once only thing. Also, if you do find yourself really liking it and you would fork out the 600 yen more than once, because it's a limited time thing you only have a short window to do that anyway. Overall, a delicious pie slice that incorporates local produce (always a winner!) so give it a go if it sounds appealing to you and you can justify the price. Happy eating! :)
