Is PM Takaichi normalizing unhealthy work expectations?
When the nation's highest officeholder says they work every weekend and every night, it's probably going to result in other people feeling like that's a normal(ish) thing to do. If you hadn't already seen it, PM Takaichi posted a tweet last week on Marine Day, saying she was blessed that the holiday afforded her a "full" five hours of sleep. She mentioned that since taking the prime ministership, 0 to 3 hours had been the norm.

The tweet in question - I circled the bit about her getting a "full" 5 hours of sleep on the Marine Day holiday. I know I still feel like absolute garbage on 5 hours of sleep, so I have no idea how she is functioning.
I guess there's a flipside to everything, and maybe some people look at that and think "wow, what a diligent PM we have!"...personally, though, I find it incredibly tone deaf since figures just reported this month showed record highs of government payouts due to deaths or illnesses due to overwork.
Exhaustion and wearing yourself thin isn't a badge of honor. I think with Takaichi presenting this in a weird way as admirable, it's reinforcing the idea that extreme working hours are expected rather than something to improve upon.
