The good
Starbucks is really on an Earl Grey and strawberry kick at the moment, and I'm certainly not complaining! This chiffon cake is a lovely combo of the two flavors, with the Earl Grey giving it a slightly floral, aromatic taste and the strawberry whipped cream adding a nice sweetness. I particularly like that chiffon cake is a lot lighter than some other cakes, so it's a nice option to enjoy alongside a coffee or tea without it being too heavy. The moist, chewy texture is another plus, and the pink strawberry topping makes it look very visually appealing, too!
The not so good
While I liked the combination, I think this one might be a little too gentle on the Earl Grey side. With the tea being such a distinctive flavor, I would have liked it to come through a bit more, especially alongside the strawberry cream. At ¥520, it's also a little more expensive than an everyday treat. It's a nice cake, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a must-try unless you're already a fan of the Earl Grey and strawberry combination. If you want the flavor combo but in a more budget-friendly way, try out the scone which is also on the menu right now.
