The description
In mid-August 2026, Asahi Breweries' Maruefu brand released Aki no Maruyaka, meaning autumn mellow. The Maruefu recipe is enhanced with more malt for a rounded autumn flavour.
The good
If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a fan of Asahi Brewereries' Maruefu. Maruefu is a Bubble-era brew launched in 1986. I missed its hayday, usually partaking of the standard Asahi Super Dry. The beer was revived in the early 2020s. Aki no Maruyaka is the first seasonal offering from Asahi's Maruefu. It's got extra malt, a lot of sweetness, which is a nice way to start the autumn, and a light bitter finish. I got it for a promotional price of 180 yen at a supermarket. This beer is on repeat, as it's a nice otsukare beer.If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a fan of Asahi Brewereries' Maruefu. Maruefu is a Bubble-era brew launched in 1986. The not so good
Oh, I like this. I have no complaints, really. I recommend this version of Maruefu, Asahi Aki no Maruyaka, as a good otsukare beer to enjoy the end of summer 2026. This first foray into seasonal beer for Maruefu is a winner. Sure, Maruefu is a mass-produced beer, but it's got a lovely smooth mouthfeel and crisp finish. The autumn version preserves the qualities of the beer, and adds in additional malt and a hint of sweetness. I'd say this one goes well with a warm bowl of oden, or grilled sanma. Look out for the orange and red can design.
