The description
Shimamura, known for its housewares and clothing, carries suteteko. The ladies' wide-leg pants have a drawstring in the elastic waist and have two pockets.
The good
It's super hot this summer, and a lot of my cotton summer loungewear is looking well-worn. Roomy cotton clothing is great in the heat, but this year, I'm going for rayon bottoms. These wide-leg pants are suteteko. They are modelled after traditional underclothing that was meant to protect your kimono from sweat. The modern versions are usually mid-calf length with elastic waistbands and drawstrings. These are rayon. The label indicates they dry quickly, are cool to the touch, and have pockets.
The not so good
I'm really pleased with these suteteko pants. The fabric is flowy and the pants have a simple dot pattern. The price is right, too, discounted to 700 yen. I think I'll get a lot of wear out of these pants. Note that most of the ladies' suteteko pants Shimamura carries are kinda ugly. They're essentially underwear, and the fabric patterns tend to be small and cutesy. The pair I bought have a simple dot pattern. The label indicates they are for a 97 - 105 cm waist and LL?! I'm not a big lady. I ignore the letter sizes.
