A bit too much like drinking salad dressing

At first, I actually didn’t mind this soup. I deliberately chose to try it out because I wanted something (even) lighter than the other chilled soups in the range. It is a consommé soup base, cool and initially promising to be refreshing.  If you are familiar with soups that use consommé as a base, you can probably already imagine how it tastes. My initial impression reminded me of the “soup bar” soups you get in family restaurants like Gasto and Saizeriya, but chilled. There was a generous amount of grated onion to give the soup some extra volume, and for all it is naturally quite watery, it had a quite distinct, salty, consommé flavour.

I think this would make a pretty good soup base. Needing to do a lot of extra preparation probably defeats the purpose of buying a soup at a convenience store! Still, I do want to acknowledge the potential in that regard. Perhaps even something simple would work, such as mixing in some lightly steamed vegetables. Eating it by itself, though, really didn’t work for me. While the first spoonful or so was okay, the taste got too much very quickly, and I ended up feeling like I was eating/drinking something more reminiscent of a bowl of salad dressing. I managed to finish it, but I probably won’t repeat the experience.
