The description
The crepe with vanilla cream and biscuit (もっちもち食感クレープ 塩バニラ) is part of 7-11's chilled sweets range. I purchased it from my local 7-11 for 227 yen, including tax.
The good
I was a little wary when I first saw this crepe. There seemed to be a lot of ways the “cookie pieces” could potentially go wrong. What convinced me to give it a try was the 塩バニラ, salt vanilla cream. I really think 7-11 need to add that salt part to their English translations a bit more often, because that addition of salt to their vanilla is quite a game changer. It can make an ordinary snack into something wonderful. And, in my opinion, this snack really is wonderful. Everything just works so well. The salt gives the vanilla cream an edge, but it’s not so much that it overpowers. The crepe dough is a good texture, staying just right even after being refrigerated for hours, and the cookie pieces that worried me initially? They are just right too, discernible without being jarringly crunchy and adding a slight caramel flavour to the whole thing.
The not so good
I really don’t have any objections to this crepe. I loved it, and just writing about it makes me want to go and get another one. My only issue would be my strong suspicion that it won’t be around very long. Generally, 7-11 just doesn’t stock the same chilled sweets for that long unless they’re very obviously favorites. Crepes are always there, yes, but their flavours get changed up quite regularly and “salt vanilla” definitely has a summer-only vibe… I will definitely be enjoying it while it lasts!
