I didn't actually mean to pick this up. I was rushing and thought it was the white chocolate cream cream cake that I enjoyed (and reviewed - https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/Lyssays/MPk1d-foods_product) a couple of weeks ago, because apparently I cannot read either the English or Japanese on the wrapper! However, I am a lemon fan so it wasn't an entirely unwelcome mistake. Lemon tends to be a summer sort of flavour in Japan, and the apparently sweeter Setouchi lemons tend to be especially popular. It was indeed quite a sweet treat, with the tart lemon tones quite mild. The sponge cake was pleasant, the lemon chocolate coating was enjoyable, and the lemon diplomat cream, while not overly strong in flavour, tended to work well with the rest of the textures and flavours.

For me personally, this was a bit much. I like lemon, and I love chocolate, but I'm not entirely sold on mixing them together. White chocolate and lemon are okay, but I can see how the particular combination of flavours could cross from "very sweet" into "slightly sickening" pretty easily. I think vanilla and lemon work better than white chocolate and lemon; it may sound like a minor difference, but it definitely is one. It's not a bad treat, and definitely worth a try if any of the flavours mentioned are of interest. However, I'm not sure I'll go for it again. It felt a little dense for a summer treat, even a chilled one. I think I'll keep my lemon treats and my chocolate treats separate.
