Recently, I wrote about the 7-11’s soft castella with vanilla whipped cream - https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/Lyssays/zDW4l-foods_product - and that was pretty great. Still, I was pleasantly surprised to see another salted vanilla cream offering on the menu, this time in the form of Pancakes with Salted Vanilla Whipped Cream, and I just had to give them a try too. I’m pleased to say that these are equally delicious! The salted vanilla cream is delicious, the salt lending the vanilla just the right edge. The amount of cream is also perfect, the serving plentiful without being messy, and the pancakes are a nice texture with a subtle flavour that works well with the cold nature of the snack and pairs nicely with the sweet filling.

I don’t really have complaints about this! A lot of the things that might go wrong with it just don’t, eg. the texture of the pancakes. The makers have done a good job here. My only question, then, is which is better - the salted vanilla cream soft castella, or the salted vanilla cream pancakes. My conclusion is that it depends on where and when you are eating the sweet. They’re both very high-quality and tasty, especially for convenience store treats. The castella works better when sitting down and eating with a bit more care, but these pancakes are maybe better if you’re on the go and looking for a quicker, easier snack. Either way, I definitely recommend enjoying either or both while they are available!
