The description

Mon Plaisir's Fraise (¥600 before tax) is a strawberry cake made with sponge, cream and fresh strawberries. A mid-range option that delivers a classic combination of flavors without feeling overly heavy.

The good

I purchased the Fraise from Patisserie Mon Plaisir for ¥600 before tax. The name comes from the French word for strawberry, and the cake delivers exactly the sort of classic strawberry-and-cream combination that many people associate with traditional patisserie desserts. I have also had the Strawbery Tart, but I prefer the Fraise. It is served as a relatively generous triangle slice of cake, for 600 yen before tax. 600 yen certainly isn't cheap, but at Mon Plaisir it is a mid-range price. The slice featured soft cocoa sponge cake layered with cream and strawberries, then topped with a generous amount of whipped cream. While it was not the most elaborate cake in the display case, it was attractive in a simple and elegant way. The strawberries provided a pleasant fruity freshness that balanced the sweetness of the cream, helping the cake avoid becoming too rich.

The not so good

Although I enjoyed the Fraise overall, it may not be the most exciting choice for everyone. At ¥600 before tax, it is priced slightly above some simpler cakes, yet it relies on familiar ingredients and flavors rather than offering anything particularly unique or memorable. Their real Insta-worthy desserts are even higher in price. You will find some of them also reviewed on City-cost. Thus, while its simplicity is part of its charm, some people may feel it lacks the visual impact expected from a premium patisserie purchase.
