I purchased the Halloween version of Mon Plaisir's Gateau Chocolat for ¥660 before tax from the Petit Gateau selection, and it turned out to be one of my favorite cakes from the visit. The seasonal decoration immediately caught my attention, with a playful Halloween design that made the dessert feel special without distracting from the cake itself. According to the shop's description, the cake features lightly sweetened chocolate cake sandwiched with fresh cream, and I thought the balance worked extremely well. Rather than relying on excessive sweetness, the chocolate flavor was allowed to take center stage.

I bought this 'petit gateau' at their Kawagoe branch. Their Kawagoe branch is take-out only, something to note before visiting in the hope of a cake and tea or coffee! Their Higashimatsuyama branch has a cafe with seating. However, even if you live far away, they will put some of those dinky little "horeizai" cooling packs in the box, to keep the cakes chilled. The Gateau Chocolat is a regular in their Petit Gateau range, but this particular Halloween one pictured, was only available in the lead up to Halloween.
