The description
A pack of six 30 gram peanut flavored rice snacks. Irrefutably a very popular snack in Japan. The producer claims that its Japan's number one rice snack.
The good
Kaki no tane are a staple in our household. I always thought they were nuts, but only realized recently they are actually a rice snack with peanut flavoring. They seem healthier than some snacks you see in the shops. They are a good size and weight. They make a nice souvenir from Japan too, although they can break up in a suitcase if not wrapped properly. The price is also quite good, where I bought them anyway, but there is a big discrepancy price between locations. More on that in the 'negative features' section below.
The not so good
The biggest issue I have with Kameda's Kaki no Tane is that the price differs greatly between shops, supermarkets and drug stores around Japan. Moreover, they are ridiculously expensive online. I've seen this very same product being sold for 1000 yen online, five times the price I paid for them. Welcia, where I bought them, seems to be one of the most reasonably priced places for the product. They currently sell them for 199 yen. I noticed though that they've reduced the volume slightly lately. It used to be 199 yen for 190 grams (six packets of 31 to 32 grams) and now its 199 yen for 180 grams. Still not bad value.
