The description

This food product is Calbee's "Frugra" (Fruit and Granola) chocolate banana flavor, featuring crunchy cranola, dried banana pieces and heart-shaped biscuits.

The good

I was drawn to the packaging of this Frugra, a brand granola with dried fruit, from Calbee. Granola can be very expensive in Japan, and this product certainly isn't cheap. However, it was on special offer, thus cheaper than normal. Moreover, I got the last bag that had an additional 50 grams for no extra cost. So, for this particular purchase it worked out about 1 yen per gram, but normally it would be closer to 1.5 yen per gram. These days, I only eat cereal for breakfast a couple of times a week. I like that cereal is quick and easy. While I wouldn't buy this product regularly because of the price and due to the chocolate, it is nice for a change. So, I decided to try it while it was on special offer.

The not so good

I really like the taste, but it's a bit too sweet to be eating every morning. It is fortified with calcium, iron and vitamins, but the addition of chocolate makes it feel like a less than healthy option. If it was 'cocoa beans' instead of chocolate, I might be tempted to purchase it more often. The banana bits are particularly nice, but there are only a few of them. Probably 50 parts of granola to one piece of banana, or the differential might be even greater. The heart biscuits all settled to the bottom, so I didn't even get to see one until I was halfway through the pack. I feel like there are only a handful of biscuits in the entire bag. I am still only half through the pack though, so maybe there are even more to come! I liked this product and I might buy it again, but definitely not regularly.
