The description
This Coco's menu item is from the Grand Menu - a hearty beef curry with tender chunks of meat in a rich, spice‑heavy sauce. Unexpectedly hot for those expecting a mild family‑restaurant curry.
The good
Coco’s Beef Curry arrives looking warm and hearty with large pieces of beef nestled in an aromatic sauce. But it was an order fail on our part. My youngest daughter ordered it expecting something similar to the curry you get in other family restaurants, but it was unexpectedly super spicy! She's actually quite good with spicy - a lot more than I am - so for her to find it too hot is saying something! She actually had to swap with my son, because she was really struggling (and sweating) after just a few bites. I tried it too, so I could write a review, and while I really liked the beef pieces, I too found it way too hot to enjoy. I don't know if somebody made a mistake in the recipe or if it's always this hot. The presentation is inviting, and the portion size feels fair for the price. My son, really enjoyed it, so I give it four stars and it must be popular in general, as it is one of their signature dishes.
The not so good
I suppose a lot of what I wrote in the 'positive' section is also the 'negative' of this dish. I know we made a mistake ordering it, so I don't want to be too harsh on this menu item. However, in our defense, the menu description describes it as "spice-fragrant" which to me implied that it had a nice spicy aroma, rather than it being chili heat level. It would have been nice if the menu more specifically indicated the curry itself is spicy. Other menu items had a red chili icon beside the dish to indicate it was spicy - I am pretty sure this curry didn't have that icon. If it did, we missed it and that is on us. To be perfectly honest though, because I had a similar experience with the pasta on the same day in the same restaurant, I feel that maybe somebody in the kitchen was throwing in more peppers to dishes than usual! I could be wrong though.
