The Good Futon Mark on Futon Day
Earlier in the year, on February 10th, I introduced Futon Day, but it's not the only futon day in the year. Today, October 10th, is another day for futons. This one Futon Day uses the hiragana rather than Kanji in Japanese: ふとんの日.
They chose October 10th, 10/10, as the anniversary because it can be read as "fu (10) ton (10)". The aim of the observance is to encourage people to learn more about bedding and to think about the connection between quality sleep and good health.
What I found interesting about the October 10th commemoration is that it was created by the Japan Bedding Goods Association (JBA) who are behind the GF (Good Futon) Mark, a certification only awarded to futons that meet established quality standards. So, if you are in the market for a new futon, keep an eye out for the GF mark for a Good Futon!
