A Day to Enjoy Candles

Today, and November 1st annually, is Enjoy Candles Day キャンドルを楽しむ日 in Japan. It celebrates the simple pleasure of candlelight and the relaxing atmosphere it can create. The commemorative day was established by a candle manufacturer, Pegasus Candle, based in Okayama Prefecture. 

November 1st, 11/1, was chosen for the date because three '1's in a row resemble candles in a candlestick, which traditionally had three slots. In addition, early November is also a time when evenings grow longer and candlelight feels especially inviting. The day encourages people to appreciate the gentle beauty of a candle's flickering flame and to enjoy spending time with family and friends by candlelight.
