The description
A new, limited-edition, summer‑only shaved ice featuring bright blue tropical passion‑fruit flavor, color‑changing lemon syrup, and pineapple and fish‑shaped gummies. At Coco's restaurants.
The good
Of all the things we ordered, ate and sampled as a family of six on a visit to Coco's restaurant last week, this limited edition shaved ice (Kakigori) is the only thing that really stood out. It is new according to the menu and only available this summer. There are two sizes. My youngest (elementary school age) daughter ordered the smaller, "mini" version. But she couldn't finish it, so I had the pleasure. She loved the popping candy - me not so much! I liked that the popping candy came in a separate packet so you can add it yourself. The tropical passion‑fruit flavor was very good, and the color‑changing lemon syrup was a nice touch. I think that will appeal to children more than adults, but I did get a kick out of it too! The pineapple and fish‑shaped gummies added a nice contrast of texture and they were yummy!
The not so good
However, there were only two of each - two fish shaped gummies and two pineapple gummies. I thought it would be nice for both appearance and texture if they had a few more of each. Probably more a plus than a negative, depending on your perspective, but the mini size was really large. I would have preferred if they had a true mini version at a more reasonable price. This 'mini' was 540 yen, which was worth it because of the size. Because this dessert is summer‑only and specific to this year’s fair menu, it won’t be available once the season ends, which can be disappointing for anyone who discovers they love it. The limited nature also means it may take longer to prepare, as noted on the menu. For us, although ordered about 10 minutes before everyone else ordered their dessert, it arrived after everyone else had finished their desserts!
