The description
This dessert from the Coco's Grand Menu is a slightly firm custard purin with a hint of orange, topped with caramel and whipped cream, served old style on a silver pudding saucer.
The good
The best thing about this purin (like a custard pudding or creme caramel) is the way it is served - old school on a silver pudding saucer. It looks picture perfect. It is a generous size and the cream and caramel sauce on top are delicious. The custard has a firm texture, which some people might prefer over the newer, softer types of pudding. The great thing about the firm texture is that it holds the shape of the dessert without losing smoothness. The faint orange scent adds a nice touch and a refreshing lift, and makes the flavor brighter than a standard purin. At 350 yen (385 yen with tax), it’s an easy, reliable dessert.
The not so good
CoCo’s Purin is a bit more like a custard pudding than a creme caramel than some of the other purin I have tasted. I personally prefer the softer, more creme caramel type, than this type of hard custard pudding. However, overall, I did enjoy this purin. I particularly liked the hint of citrus. However, if you don't like firm custard pudding and prefer the type that melts in your mouth, this Coco's purin might not be for you. This particular purin is only available at Coco's restaurants, but they are located all around the country. Moreover, many family restaurants offer a similar type of dessert.
