This Monteur cream puff is consistently delicious, the custard is silky, mellow, and full of real milk-and-egg flavor. It tastes freshly cooked, not artificial, and the sweetness is balanced so you can enjoy the whole thing without feeling heavy. The choux shell is tender and slightly chewy, holding the custard well without collapsing. It’s a simple dessert, but the quality is reliably high. Unfortunately, the price has gone up again this year, but it is still an affordable treat at about 150 yen.

Not only has the price gone up, but the size has also gone down! I have bought this product regularly over the years and I am pretty sure they reduced its size in the last year. I remember the first time I bought it I thought it was going to have both custard and cream in it due to the wording in Japanese. But the filling is only custard - milk-and-egg custard. The custard is good, but a little too 'one note'. I think if they added a layer of cream it would really enhance this product. In their defense it was a mistake on my part, not a fault of theirs. Moreover, the name is written in English on the pack too and very clearly states "custard cream puff". They don't have a long shelf life so it's best to eat this cream puff within a day of purchasing.
