The description
This product is a pack of 18 individually wrapped really delicious, soft, melt-in-your-mouth creamy milk chocolates filled with smooth Hokkaido fresh cream.
The good
Highly rated all over the Internet, this pack of 18 individually wrapped "fresh cream" chocolates from Furuta are well deserving of their high praise. They really are delicious. They are a nice size too - a little bit bigger than other individually wrapped chocolates with a bite in them. Although, if you choose, you don't need to bite them as they truly do melt in your mouth. The outer shell is soft, but the inner filling is even more silky. The wrapping of them are nice too, in a rich gold with brown fringe. The have become quite expensive in recent years, but I still indulge in them relatively frequently. Eighteen in a pack means we can easily share them in my family of six.
The not so good
As above, they are quite expensive now, but sometimes you can get them on special offer. I got them at 398 yen after tax recently, but they are often more than 400 yen. They seem to be even more expensive online, with Yahoo, Rakuten and Amazon current prices all upward of 600 yen for a single pack. So, where possible it is probably best to buy them in-store. It may work out to cheaper to buy them in bulk online though. The sweetness level is quite high, so if you prefer darker or more cocoa-forward chocolates, these may feel overly sugary. The fresh cream filling is soft but can taste a bit artificial compared to true ganache-style chocolates. Because the pieces melt easily, they’re not ideal for carrying around in warm weather.
