The description
A half and half sandwich from Yaoko with a soft Japanese croquette patty on one side and a creamy egg salad filling on the other side. It cost 198 yen.
The good
This seemed like particularly good value, especially for Yaoko supermarket, a half and half sandwich with a rich filling in each half. Just 198 yen before tax. It is hard to get sandwiches for less than 200 yen these days. On one side they have a soft Japanese croquette filling between two thick slices of white bread, and on the other a creamy egg salad filling, also between two thick slices of fresh white bread. I particularly like that the egg salad was a subtle taste, not as strong on the mayonnaise as other brands I have tried.
The not so good
I really liked the egg half, but I wasn't nearly as enamored with the Japanese croquette (korokke) side! The croquette wasn't soggy, which is a bonus for Yaoko, but it also wasn't hard or rather crisp. The texture just didn't work for me for this one. I would have preferred a bit more crispiness in the croquette. The sauce is minimal too, so some bites feel dry. The bread is fresh and fluffy but can taste slightly processed. It’s a decent quick snack, but I wouldn't be writing home about it as the saying goes! Overall, though, I would buy it again if there wasn't a better choice available.
