Hotel for less than 5000 yen a night in Niigata

I recently stayed in a business hotel that is made up mostly of fishermen guests. There is a newer section to it, but I stayed in the original building, which is very old. However, rooms have been fitted with unit bathrooms in recent years and the air conditioning units looked new. 

I stayed there with my family, a 'big' family by Japanese standards and the biggest hurdle we face with accommodation lately is that three of my children are now seen as adults. It not only makes finding accommodation difficult, it also pushes the price right up. But this hotel worked out at just 51,000 yen for two nights for six of us. That works out at 4250 yen each per person per night. They even have a single room for 3000 yen per person per night.

We added breakfast on one morning for an extra 750 yen each. Even if we’d taken it both mornings, the total would have come to 5,000 yen per person per night for my family, with breakfast included. In 2026, that is an absolute steal. The breakfast is very basic though and you have to exit the building and go to a small tonkatsu restaurant in the parking lot for it - self-service. 

The hotel is "Hotel Itoigawa Inter" in Itoigawa City. Please note that it is not a hotel to hang out in; it is simply a place to sleep. I recommend you read the articles linked below, to get a better idea what to expect, but if you are looking for cheap accommodation in Niigata; Hotel Itoigawa Inter is a reasonable option.
