Most would give it 3 stars, but I give it 5 because...
First and foremost, I think most people would only give this hotel 3 stars. That is because it is old and basic. But I give it 5 for the extremely kind hotel owner without whom our trip to Niigata may never have happened. Moreover, it is cheap at just 4250 yen per night or 5000 yen with breakfast included. They have rooms for just 3000 yen per night (3750 with breakfast too). There are very few hotels left with those prices. This is not the Ritz and this is NOT somewhere to hang out, it is simply somewhere affordable to sleep.
