The description

Kura Sushi's tamagoyaki sushi features a thick, fluffy slice of sweet Japanese omelette served over seasoned rice. A simple, child-friendly option that proves sushi is not always about fish.

The good

I am not going to review everything I have ever eaten at Kura Sushi, but I did want to write a review about their "tamagoyaki" (Japanese omelette on rice) to show one of the non-fish options at a revolving sushi bar. I think it is one of the quintessential, must tries for kaiten (revolving) sushi first timers. The other thing I love about the egg option is that it is child friendly. Moreover, children really love it The price is okay, considering how expensive eggs are at the moment. You get two tamagoyaki sushi on the plate for 110 yen. You can either eat them both yourself or share! They are available on the take-out menu too.

The not so good

Although Kura Sushi's tamagoyaki sushi is a dependable choice, it may not be exciting enough for everyone. The flavour is intentionally mild, which helps make it family-friendly, but some diners may find it lacking compared to more complex sushi toppings. Those who prefer savory flavors might find the sweetness of the omelet a little too prominent, especially if they are expecting something closer to traditional egg dishes served elsewhere. The simplicity of the dish can also work against it. Since it consists mainly of omelette and rice, there is not a great deal of variety in texture or flavour from bite to bite. Seafood lovers visiting Kura Sushi may overlook it entirely in favor of the restaurant's wider selection of fish-based sushi. Even for diners who enjoy tamagoyaki, it may feel more like a supporting side dish than a standout menu item. But I still think it is a great option, especially for kids, and I will be buying it again in the future.
