Drinking Water Day in Japan
Today, and June 6th annually, is Drinking Water Day 飲み水の日 in Japan. It is an anniversary created by the Tokyo Pharmaceutical Association's Public Health Committee. They play a major and important role in monitoring the quality of Tokyo's drinking water.
The association emphasizes that pharmacists contribute not only through medicine but also through broader public health efforts, including ensuring the safety of everyday essentials like drinking water. The anniversary was created to encourage people to appreciate the systems that deliver clean water and to stay mindful of water quality, conservation and environmental stewardship.
June 6th was chosen for the date of "Drinking Water Day" because it follows World Environment Day, which falls on June 5th annually. As such, it highlights the close connection between environmental protection and safe drinking water.

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
