A day for good teeth!
April 18th is Good Teeth Day よい歯の日 Yoi Ha no Hi in Japan. It is a Japanese commemorative day created in 1993 by the Japan Dental Association. They date comes from a simple, memorable wordplay on 4/18: "yo (4) i (1) ha (8) " which means "good teeth".
The purpose of the anniversary is to encourage people to protect their oral health they can continue enjoying delicious meals, lively conversations and vibrant quality of life as they age. This day is also closely tied to the 8020 Movement launched in 1989 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The goal of which is straightforward: reach age 80 while keeping at least 20 of your own teeth.
Maintaining natural teeth supports not only chewing and speech, but overall health, longevity and emotional well-being. From brushing routines to preventative check-ups, the message is consistent: caring for your mouth is caring for your future.
