Mie Prefectural Citizen's Day - 50th anniversary
April 18th carries a double milestone for Mie Prefecture. It is 150 years since the prefecture was formed and 50 years since Mie Prefectural Citizen's Day 三重県民の日 was created to honor that history.
In 1876, Anotsu Prefecture and Watarai Prefecture were merged, weaving together coastal towns, mountain communities, and sacred landscapes into what we now know as Mie Prefecture. A century later, in 1976, on the 100th anniversary, the prefecture established the commemorative day so residents could pause and reflect on the development of the region.
Each year on Mie Prefectural Citizen's Day public facilities, such as museums, offer free admission, inviting residents and visitors to reconnect with Mie's past. This year, for the 150-year anniversary, there are some special events. Furthermore, the prefecture has set up a special website promoting both those events and the long and varied history of Mie Prefecture.
What do you most associate with Mie Prefecture? For me, the first thing that came to mind was the Suzuka Circuit, hence the feature photo of a Honda concept design F1 inspired car! Have you been to Mie Prefecture before?

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
