Only in Japan: A dessert with a 10 minute deadline
Japan has a talent for turning even dessert into a tiny adventure! We've had raw purin in Nagatoro that needed to be eaten straight away and on our recent visit to Kurobe, we saw this "Phantom Alpen Cheesecake" that you have just ten minutes to enjoy it at its best. Sold at "Alpen Cheesecake" located at (under the stairs of) the Unazukionsen station.

The cheesecake is crafted to melt almost instantly on the tongue, using natural water from the Northern Alps and an unusually high amount of milk. The result is so delicate that the shop officially recommends eating it within ten minutes at the café space. I don't think it is a food-safety expiry, more a taste / texture one. But do check with the store if you buy it. Last thing you need on your travels is an upset tum!
Because each batch is limited, visitors are encouraged to arrive early. It costs 750 yen. For an extra 250 yen, you can pair it with coffee, tea, or lemonade. There are seats in an airconditioned space indoors and a small courtyard area with a view of the trains (Toyama Chiho Tetsudo line).
A dessert with a deadline; only in Japan.
