A Day for Kameda's Kaki No Tane

Today, and October 10th annually, is Kameda Kaki no Tane Day 亀田の柿の種の日 in Japan. It is a commemorative day established by Kameda Seika, the Niigata based company behind one of Japan's most popular snack foods.

Kaki no Tane is a long-selling snack consisting of crescent-shaped soy sauce-flavoured rice crackers mixed with peanuts. The peanut-containing version was first released in 1966 and has remained a favorite for generations of snack lovers. Moreover, they have expanded beyond its original flavor in recent years, with flavors such as ume shiso and wasabi.

The date for the anniversary was chosen because the number "1" resembles a rice cracker seed and the "0" looks like a peanut, reflecting the classic combination that makes up Kameda no Kaki no Tane.
