Library Coworking: Monday
To explain:
I'm a freelancer, it's too hot out, and I get bored working at home by myself sometimes. (Sometimes it is really nice, and I have online or in person things and phone calls that break up the mostly alone time.)
This week is a hot one in Japan, plus I don't have a lot of work that needs to happen at my house (like calligraphy), so I thought library coworking sounded good. I don't have to talk to anyone if I don't want to, but the fact that there are other people around means I'm less likely to goof off.
This week started with me going to a library on Monday, then deciding I might as well go to a different library every day this week and be productive. Why not? Then I can proclaim the awesomeness of libraries.
To be perfectly honest, my first year living in Japan, I didn't even enter the library. The fact is, libraries are a great resource and a comfortable space to get some work done.
I went to the closest library that is open on Mondays. It's a good one. It is a city library that joined forces with the local Osaka University campus library for three floors of books. It opened just a couple years ago, has a cafe inside as that is the trend, and the hours are longer than the other city libraries.
The best part that no one seems to care about is the AV room. When I noticed it, I thought it was really cool they have all this old film and music media and the players for them too.
I finally used it for the first time and I was the only one using the space. I picked out an art movie in English. (There are so many movies and TV shows in a lot of different languages plus Japanese subtitles. Good to know they even have the Coffee Prince series if I ever wanna binge watch it again.)
I took the DVD case to the reference counter and received a bin with headphones, a remote, and the DVD. There is also a number for the cubicle to go to where you can play the media you've chosen.
Some people go to the movie theater during the summer but this is free. It's not possible to watch something with someone else, but I haven't watched a movie in so long and actually sat through all of it. I did a lot of doodling while watching.
Next I researched a trip I'm planning then looked up references for a logo I'm gonna design. (The call number 727 is a favorite.)
Any other library nerds?
