Share Your Opinions on New Visa Fee Increases

https://migrants.jp/news/voice/0716.html
I stumbled across this website while searching for info about the recent visa fee increase law that passed on May 29th, 2026.
The ministry of justice is open to hearing our opinions on the fees going up (for permanent residents it's 20 times the current amount). The change in fees is expected to go into effect in October this year.
It feels Very Fast for a country which has been criticized for being stereotypically slow to change.
I'm sharing this with everyone because the deadline is August 2nd (in about two weeks).
Please contribute your opinion on how the fee increase impacts you and your family - not just financially - as a resident of Japan with foreign roots.
Information is available in 14 languages via the website above and the site has Japanese followed by English. In addition, you can submit your opinion in your native language.

I blogged about the Immigration Services Agency opinion box, too - https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/TonetoEdo/zKn51-living_education The closing date is a good catch! I missed that when I wrote that blog.

@TonetoEdo I actually read your blog while distracted and totally forgot about it! Thank you for sharing about it too. For some reason the site I linked made me go activist mode. It's infuriating that the plan for a portion of the funds from visa increases are intended for the unrelated free high school education plan and to remove gasoline taxes. Why does the government think it's okay to put the financial burden on foreign nationals but not Japanese citizens?
