Significant heatstroke numbers last week
I saw online yesterday that a really significant number of people were taken to hospital over the last 7 days with heatstroke. Of those, the majority (about 60%) were seniors aged over 65.
I don't know what the demographics are of your individual neighborhoods, but we definitely have a large number of seniors in our area. Some we are close to and interact with almost daily, and some we only see in passing when we're out walking, but it's a good reminder to check in on people (or just get used to when you see them!) in your community.
The data from last week also noted that 40% or so of respondents ended up getting heatstroke at home (or other residential-style settings), so if you have the ability to check in with your neighbors I think it's a small gesture that can go a long way.
