Auspicious dates and life in Japan

Did you know that a few days ago it was 7/7/7? The 7th day of the 7th month, but also the 7th year of Reiwa. Because of that, there were apparently a whole host of marriage registrations on that day (lucky 7s and all!), and it got me thinking about auspicious dates here and how that isn't really a thing where I'm from.

When it comes to things like weddings, my home country (Australia) typically sees people pick their dates based on fairly practical things like the weather, or their guest's availability. No one would consider a date being "unlucky" to sign something like mortgage papers (maybe Friday the 13th if you were really into superstition), but typically you just do stuff when people are available.

Here though, there's still a bit of focus on the Rokuyo calendar, which has a six day cycle and days that operate off a very lucky to incredibly unlucky status. You can explore the calendar dates here, but this month is my birthday and it falls on a "Tomobiki (友引)" date -- apparently good for celebrating, but not good if you were planning a funeral then.

Does your home country have anything like Japan's auspicious date system, or is it much like my home country where anything goes (except maybe Friday the 13th?)
