Things I'm excited for in autumn: the autumn lilies festival

A few blog posts have covered some of the beautiful flowers that pop up during the autumn months, but I don't know that I've yet seen one about autumn lilies. That might be because they're not as prolific as some other flowers, but one place I really enjoy getting to see them at near home is Tsukioka Park in Uonuma.

The park hosts an autumn lilies festival each year (this year's event is on September 23rd, the autumn equinox holiday), and there are about 10,000 of these beautiful flowers in various colors to enjoy. You can also buy cut lilies if you want to take some home, and typically there are sales of other local produce here as well.

The event runs from 9am until 1pm, and there is plenty of on-site parking, although do expect it to be busier than usual because of the flower festival and the fact that it's a holiday! The park is also accessible via public transport – Echigo Horinouchi Station is closest, and it's about 20 minutes away on foot.

I hope if you're a local, you can enjoy this pretty festival to welcome in autumn. Admission is free!
