The description
This product is a plant based lemon cube cake, and it's available from Starbucks stores for a limited time. It's priced at 300 yen including tax.
The good
This lemon cube cake was on the Starbucks menu a year or so ago, and it's made a return! The first awesome thing to note about it is that it's a plant based cake, with a unique "cream cheese" filling that is actually made of soy milk and chickpeas! It sounds super weird, I know, but you really can't tell the difference from usual cream cheese! The price point feels super reasonable at only 300 yen, especially when you factor in the price of a lot of other Starbucks desserts that are over the 500 yen mark. Great if you want a lighter, fresh feeling dessert, as it's not a huge portion size either.
The not so good
Personally I don't have a lot of critiques about this product. I really love that Starbucks have dived in to all things plant-based, and I have a lot of respect that a major global chain has embraced it -- they have quite a decent lineup of options to pick from, this being just one of them. I'm not vegan, but I do have friends and family members who are, so it's always nice and easy when I can go out with them and they can enjoy a sweet treat at somewhere so accessible. Obviously one downside is that it's only a limited time thing, but the fact that it was released previously and made a comeback is an encouraging sign that we might see it again in the future. Happy eating, and hope you enjoy it if you end up giving it a try. Happy eating!
