The best time of year for sunsets?

We had a really incredible sunset out here in Minamiuonuma last night, with the sky taking on some incredible pinky-red colors. Typically, those kinds of skies are more common during summer evenings out here (at least, in my experience anyway), so it was a real treat to have an evening sky like this in early November!

It did get me thinking though, is there a specific time of year here that is best known for its sunsets? I know that when it comes to things like seeing Mount Fuji then it's typically best in winter (because the humidity is lower, resulting in clearer, crisper skies), but I wonder if there's some official scientific reasoning out there for the best season for sunsets.
