Things I didn't try early on: Red beans sweets
As someone who comes from Australia, sweets back home are usually of the cake and chocolate variety. It's probably why it took me a while to embrace a lot of the more earthy sweets here, such as all things red beans based.
When I first tried a red bean dorayaki, I wasn't the biggest fan at first, but the flavor has grown on me so much over the years that I'd say it's one of my favorites when it comes to picking a dessert. At this time of year I especially enjoy zenzai, the sweet red bean soup that comes with mochi in it. Super yummy on a cold day!
