Transport meets sustainability in Japan

A while ago (several years, now!) on City-Cost, there was a theme post all about sustainability. It was one of my favorite themes that we've had on here, because I really do think it helped me see life in Japan through a different, more eco-friendly lens.

Over the weekend, I learned about the Osaka Metro's Discarded Train Regeneration Project, which uses a variety of parts from retired subway cars in other really cool, upcycled pieces.

There is everything from cute tote bags, to floor chairs, to towel hangers, made with various bits and pieces from actual trains.

I know that with the festive season around the corner, some of you might be looking for unique gifts for people in your life. I thought some of these options were just so cool, and I love the idea of what would otherwise end up as trash being repurposed into something new.
