Free persimmons!

There's not much better than free produce, and we get quite a bit of it at different times of year from neighbors. This weekend, we got a good-sized bag of persimmons, and I'm already thinking of how I'm going to use them.

It's definitely one of the benefits of countryside living. There really is that concept of sharing your excess with others, and I'm ever-grateful for how it helps our household grocery budget. I feel like these days, every yen really does add up, and when we can take a bit of pressure off the fresh produce budget it means we have more to spend or save in other aspects of life.

Do you have any neighbors who share their excess produce with you?

Coworkers whose families have farms bring in strawberries, mikan, and sweet potatoes. The custodians harvest the campus persimmon trees to share with our faculty. Lots of treats!
