Are Japanese adults losing their Christmas spirit?

Christmas is a big event on the shopping calendar here, but a new survey suggests that the excitement for the festive season doesn't necessarily last into adulthood.

A poll of 200 Japanese adults aged 30 to 59 asked how their feelings towards seasonal events had changed since their student days. Christmas came out on top as the event people were most likely to say they no longer looked forward to, with 31% saying it had become less exciting.

New Year celebrations were next at 24%, and Valentine's Day came third at 21.5%. One point that I found interesting, though, was the results showing that growing older doesn't mean giving up on seasonal shopping altogether.

When asked about purchasing habits, 18% said their opportunities to buy products for Christmas had increased compared with their student years. New Year celebrations saw an even higher figure of 21%.

I guess the main takeaway is that people might not feel the same anticipation they did as students for special occasions, but seasonal events can still provide reasons to shop, have fun, and spend time with others!
