The description
This product is a Tartar Sauce & Demi-Glace Grakoro (basically a korokke with macaroni, shrimp, and white sauce). It's available at McDonalds for a limited time and was 490 yen on its own.
The good
One of the fun things about being an expat in Japan is getting to experience the myriad of different foods on offer here. Some of those are very different, some are familiar, and some blur the lines in the middle. This new Tartar Sauce & Demi-Glace Grakoro from McDonalds is a very Japanese-feeling burger product, and it basically consists of a deep-fried korokke filled with macaroni, shrimp, and white sauce. There's also tartare sauce, a delicious umami demi glace, and some shredded cabbage for a bit of greenery. If you like trying things at McDonalds stores that are different than what's on offer back in your home country, then I'd say this is a fun option to try.
The not so good
A couple of downsides to note, the first being that it's quite a saucy burger offering, which ultimately translates to it being quite a messy burger offering. The sauces do ooze out of the bun a bit -- I don't know if that was just the case with the one I had, but I imagine it's probably across the board. The second point is that even though this is quite a calorie dense burger offering, I don't think it's as satiating as other burgers since the pattyis signficiantly just carbs. Because of that I'd only give it three out of five stars, but I'd still say if it sounds appealing to you then give it a try. Happy eating, and hope you enjoy it if you do end up purchasing one!
